I can’t say it enough. My love-hate relationship with this borough has leaned towards hate way more lately, and I long for the day we break up. Again I give credit to Brooklyn for being kid friendly, even if it is every other neighborhood, atleast it would be a bus or train away. I just added a blog to my Read It list, and it made me want to look to see if I could find a blog from a mom in the Bronx, posting cool stuff going on in this damn borough. To no surprise, I search “Bronx Mom Blog” and rather than a bunch of bloggers from here writing about their children and fun places they have found to do, I find Bronx mom charged with murder and Bronx Mom Charged With Killing Baby; Police Search Landfills and LADY BANDIT KILLS MOM IN BRONX APT. GOD HELP ME.
Oh and if that isn’t enough, there was this cool ass floating pool that used to be in Brooklyn (Now I can’t speak for the kind of people who went there because I never went when it was there) but lo and behold the pool has floated its way over to Hunts Point in the Bronx. UGH!! It sounded so exciting! A pool on a boat! A great view! But if you know anything about Hunts Point, you will not at all be interested in dipping your half naked bod in there. For one, Hunts Point is KNOWN for its prostitutes. Two, a bus route was just made picking up people from some of the worst parts of the Bronx to bus them over to this pool. Now, it’s not totally right for me to form an opinion on this place since I haven’t even checked it out, but let’s put it this way, the park that its in, I read, is between a landfill I think and a waste facility… and I read that people had complaints about the smell. As if that doesn’t sound tempting enough, check it out, if anything for the fabulous view of Rikers Island!
And while I’m touching the subject, if you have ever checked out meetup.com, it’s a really cool site for people to meet up and do things together, like playgroups for moms, wine tasting, etc. Of course, the Bronx falls short of having any of the cool stuff that Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn has to offer, but I did find one group. It’s a young mothers from the bronx group and its been running for a while now, but of course, has not been a success. The girl who runs the group is always trying to post new meetups and no one shows. I know I havent been to any yet my damn self, but for the most part, most don’t even happen. I want to reach out and find other moms like us who are actually interested in these type of things, but I’m seeing how hard it is. I hope everyone steps up though, and does something before she cancels the group!
This borough lets me down more and more each day..
NOTE: And please, correct me if I’m wrong. I’d love to be wrong!
